School Visit 14 October

On Tusday, we welcomed Comet and Moon classes, Years 1 and 2, from Robert Arkenstall Primary School. Comet class were so quiet on arrival it seemed for a minute they had been left behind at school! Moon class had plenty of chatterboxes, and they enjoyed the stories and joining in with the craft.

The theme for the visit was ‘Superheroes’. The children had great ideas about what superpowers would be best – fire, flight and strength were favourites.

One of the stories was 'Patcho and Pigeon – Dynamic Duo'. It’s the day of the ice cream festival and the evil Dr Jelly is causing chaos across the city. Only the dynamic duo Patcho and Pigeon can clean up the streets and save the day!

For their craft activity the children made superheroes, with some very creative colouring being done. A straw attached to the back meant they could (almost) fly!

All the children who visited gained a stamp on their Library/School visit cards. 1 visit = one stamp, and 5 stamps earn them a certificate presented in school assembly. School and family visits all count.

The library has books about traditional superheroes such as Superman and Wonder Woman, and more modern superheroes such as Paw Patrol. Fly in and capture one!

P.S. "Why did Spider-Man break up with his girlfriend? She found him too clingy!" & "Why was Batman so serious? He wasn’t the Joker." Groan.... but can YOU do any better?!

Book Club

Our friendly Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of the month in the Library at 3.30pm. We welcome anyone who enjoys reading and likes
talking about books. We don't do 'lit crit' but we discuss why we like/didn't like the book choice. We exchange tips on recent reads that we think others might enjoy, and then wander on to a wide range of subjects. You don't have to buy the books – we take turns to choose a book from a Cambridgeshire Libraries multi-copy list. If you are interested in joining us, send a request to Sally via info@haddenhamlibrarycambs.co.uk or give your contact details to a Library Volunteer.

Upcoming read:

Our next book is 'The Miniaturist' by Jessie Burton. Set in Amsterdam in 1686–87, it was inspired by Petronella Oortman's doll's house on display at the Rijksmuseum (pictured). We will be meeting in the library to discuss it on Tuesday 17th February at 3.30pm. Do let us know if you'd like to join us - we will provide a copy of the book.

To join us, speak to a Library volunteer, or drop a line to info@haddenhamlibrarycambs.co.uk.
