School Visit Report

On Thursday 15 October the library was pleased to host visits from Comet and Moon classes at Robert Arkenstall School.

It was great to see how interested the children were in the books, and in finding out how the library is organised.   We looked at different categories of books such as board book, junior fiction and non-fiction books, and used long words like ‘alphabetical’ and ‘numerical’, which I’m sure they they will all remember.

After some discussion time, each child was given a slip of paper and sent on a ‘book hunt’ to find a book in the correct section.  It was hectic, but all the children found a book that matched their card, and hopefully learned something in the process.

The craft activity was to stock toyshop shelves with the pictures provided, mainly traditional toys such as teddies, balls and a jigsaw puzzle.  This resulted in the stickiest school visit we’ve ever had!

After the glue had dried, the collages were returned to the school for the children to take home.

An added bonus was that every child received another stamp on their library/school visit card.  Every 5 stamps earns them a certificate.

Book Club

Our friendly Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of the month in the Library at 3.30pm. We welcome anyone who enjoys reading and likes
talking about books. We don't do 'lit crit' but we discuss why we like/didn't like the book choice. We exchange tips on recent reads that we think others might enjoy, and then wander on to a wide range of subjects. You don't have to buy the books – we take turns to choose a book from a Cambridgeshire Libraries multi-copy list. If you are interested in joining us, send a request to Sally via info@haddenhamlibrarycambs.co.uk or give your contact details to a Library Volunteer.

Upcoming read:

Next month we're sliding into Black History Month by the seat of our pants to discuss Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche's book Purple Hibiscus on Tuesday 17th November at 3.30pm, in the library.  All welcome, and no need to buy the book as we have enough loan copies for everyone.

To join us, speak to a Library volunteer, or drop a line to info@haddenhamlibrarycambs.co.uk.
