School Visit 17 December

Today we welcomed Moon and Comet classes, their second visit this term.  The children, from Years 1 and 2, were lively and excited about Christmas.  They enjoyed Christmas stories, and had a chance to decorate Christmas stockings to take home.

The volunteers were kept busy helping with craft, reading and stamping Library/School visit cards.  Several children had reached their 5 visit target, and will be receiving their certificates in school assembly on Friday.

One of the stories was Grumpy Badger’s Christmas, a charming twist on Charles Dicken’s A Christmas Carol.  Grumpy Badger is preparing to sleep through the winter, but the other forest animals are preparing for Christmas.  But then Grumpy Badger has three visitors... and there is a great crisis. Will he learn the error of his ways before it's too late?

The children were very good at helping to knock at Badger’s door!

A slightly different story (but suitably seasonal, if  you check the pictures very carefully) was Vegetable Glue by Susan Chandler.  Again, the children were able to join in at appropriate stages in the story.

Book Club

Our friendly Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of the month in the Library at 3.30pm. We welcome anyone who enjoys reading and likes
talking about books. We don't do 'lit crit' but we discuss why we like/didn't like the book choice. We exchange tips on recent reads that we think others might enjoy, and then wander on to a wide range of subjects. You don't have to buy the books – we take turns to choose a book from a Cambridgeshire Libraries multi-copy list. If you are interested in joining us, send a request to Sally via info@haddenhamlibrarycambs.co.uk or give your contact details to a Library Volunteer.

Upcoming read:

Our next book is Nicola Upson's 1930s Cambridge-set 'Nine Lessons' which is the 7th in her series of mysteries featuring real-life crime writer Josephine Tey (1896–1952). All are welcome, and we will provide a copy of the book.  We will be meeting in the library to discuss it on Tuesday 17th March at 3.30pm.

To join us, speak to a Library volunteer, or drop a line to info@haddenhamlibrarycambs.co.uk.
