SUMMER READING CHALLENGE

Medal ceremony - 18th september 2026

 

The Medal Ceremony is an opportunity to celebrate the success of children completing the Reading Challenge over the summer holidays.  Families and volunteers gathered at the Arkenstall Centre to mark the achievement of the successful participants.

 

The evening began with a bang, as the children tried out the various instruments available to shake, blow, rattle and squeeze. There was more enthusiasm than skill, but they certainly enjoyed themselves.  Other activities included a music themed quiz, puzzles and colouring sheets.

 

This year the theme was ‘Read to the Beat’, but each child read books of their own choice.  They all read at least 6 books (one a week), but many read more than that.  A medal and certificate was presented to each child, plus a free book of their choice from our donated stock.

 

After all this, it was time for refreshments – a drink and chocolate biscuits!   And an opportunity to pose in front of the library banner for a photo.

 

Many thanks to all the volunteers, including our 3 Young Helpers, who have helped all summer to make the Reading Challenge a success.
