Fundraising

You should be especially nice to a librarian today, or tomorrow. Sometime this week, anyway. Probably the librarians would like tea. Or chocolates. Or a reliable source of funding.

Volunteering

There are lots of ways you can support us to keep our local village library open! Explore the areas below to learn more.

Donations are a very important source of support for the library.

You can donate books – the majority of the 7000+ books on our shelves have been given to us, and we always need donations of good quality books in very good condition – both adults and childrens, fiction and non-fiction. We do not accept condensed books (Readers Digest type) or anything time limited (like study guides).

If you’ve just enjoyed reading a new book and want to share it with other people you can drop it at the library counter any time we are open, or even in our (rather small) book return box with a note saying it’s a donation. Why not put a review slip in it to tell people why it’s a great read?

If you are thinning out your home bookshelves, we can accept two or three bags or boxes worth at the library or advise where to drop them outside of opening hours. If you have a larger, more varied collection of books please do get in touch to discuss it with a member of the book team.

You can also donate money! We draw a line at grubby brown envelopes full of used tenners thrust at us from cars with tinted windows, but otherwise we are always grateful for your monetary donations. Lots of our users pop the odd pound or pocket change into our donation tin, or if you want to go that extra mile, others have a regular standing order, or even make a bequest in their will.

If you would like to set up a standing order, you can fill out our standing order form and send it to your bank, or you can use the details on the form to set up a standing order online. Download the form.

Buying books from us in the library lobby or at a local event supports us financially and when you pay your reservation fees and fines we can also use that money to buy more books and keep the library open.

Technically, this is another kind of donation, but it's so important we felt it deserved its own section: donating your time! You can get involved on a regular basis, by manning the desk, helping at local events, or any number of regular jobs that need doing to keep the library running smoothly.

Or you can donate time on a one off basis; for example, providing photography for one of our events, or doing a bit of DIY for us. Many companies offer volunteering hours as part of a community sustainability programme - why not use them to help keep a vital local service running? Or perhaps you're doing a Duke of Edinburgh award and fancy doing your voluntary service with us?

To find out more about what it's like to volunteer at Haddenham Library, take a look at our "Who we are" page. If you're ready to speak to someone about donating your time, you can drop us an email via info@haddenhamlibrarycambs.co.uk, call us on 01353 740624, or pop in an speak to us directly.

Maybe you are holding an event and would like the library to benefit from your proceeds? Or you want to do a sponsored walk/run/silence/skydive with us as the beneficiary?

As a newly registered charity, we're looking to expand our sources of fundraising. If this is something you would like to help us with, please get in touch via our Contact Us page.

If you would like to become a Friend of Haddenham Library you can just ask! We will then add you to our database of Friends and you will receive notice of Friends Meetings and events. We won't be spamming you with loads of emails and you can ask for your email to be taken off the database or for your details to be removed completely. Many of our Friends come to our meetings or help out as volunteers one way or another and others give us a regular donation - we don't mind what you do. We just like having Friends who are interested in what we do and might like to be more involved.
